The Ordinary 2% Salicylic Acid Solution

The Ordinary offers two different salicylic acid products: the Salicylic Acid 2% Solution (water-based) and the Salicylic Acid 2% Anhydrous Solution (squalane-based). The main difference is the base, with the anhydrous solution being gentler for sensitive skin due to its slow-release formula. How to Integrate into Your RoutineFor both products, integration follows similar rules in a skincare routine:

1. Cleanse: Start with a gentle cleanser and pat skin dry.
2. Apply Solution:
Apply a small amount (1-3 drops for the anhydrous or a few drops for
the water-based) to your entire face or as a spot treatment on affected
areas in the evening, once daily or a few times per week, depending on skin tolerance. Avoid the eye contour and lips.
3. Absorb: Allow the serum to absorb into your skin for a few minutes.
4. Moisturize & Protect:
Follow with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. In the morning, it is
essential to use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, as
salicylic acid can increase sun sensitivity.

Compatible and Incompatible IngredientsSalicylic acid can be a powerful active ingredient and should be used cautiously with other potent products to avoid irritation.Compatible WithIncompatible With* Hyaluronic Acid: Enhances hydration and counteracts dryness.* Retinoids/Retinol: Can cause excessive irritation and skin barrier damage. Alternate use on different nights.* Niacinamide (Use with caution): Can generally be used in the same routine, but monitoring for irritation is key.* Direct Acids: Mixing with other strong acids (like glycolic or lactic acid) can compromise the skin barrier.* Peptides (Use with caution): Generally safe, but it's best to avoid applying the salicylic acid to the same area as a peptide eye serum in the same routine.* Vitamin C (Direct/Suspension): Best to use separately (e.g., Vitamin C in the morning, BHA at night) to avoid potential irritation.Important Tips

• Start Slow:
If you are new to salicylic acid, begin using it 2-3 times a week and
gradually increase frequency as your skin builds tolerance.
• Patch Test: Always perform a patch test on a small area of skin before full facial application.
• Listen to Your Skin:
A slight tingling is normal, but prolonged stinging (over 30 seconds)
indicates potential irritation, in which case you should wash it off.
• Consistency: Visible results typically appear within 4 to 6 weeks of consistent use.
